an interview with you ;

This weeks interview is with Lauren Caisley the Founder & Creative Director of CAISLEY

With a love of interiors from a young age, Lauren has created the incredibly successful interior design business ‘CAISLEY’ and it was an absolute honour to be able to interview Lauren and find out about where her love of interiors started, her design process and inspiration!

“I used to send my parents out of the house for the day and redecorate their bedroom/living room/ any room I could get my hands on - I was 14. Designing interiors has always given me a sense of calm, creating my own environment. As I have matured, my designs have too. It’s an overarching ethos of our company – to provide ‘A Sense of Home’. And something I put to practice daily in my own life.”- Lauren

Lauren tells us that her own home is ‘a direct mix of the styles which grip me - cottage, traditional, contemporary use of space, and a warmth in texture.’

Heavily influenced by nature around her, Lauren’s own home features lots of greenery, florals, linens, and natural materials (such as jute and sisal) combined to ‘create layers of warmth and comfort’ throughout.

On designing and creating interiors for others:

“The feeling when clients walk in after the install. It’s still to this day my favourite moments in the process, I feel so proud of the team that we can create these spaces for our clients. It’s a collaborative process and one with a lot of privilege, these are people’s homes and it can be a very emotive experience.” - Lauren

If doing an entire house , which room do you start with and why? 

We typically only work on full scale residential properties, and I like to look at the house as a whole when initiating the design. Each room should feed well into the other while retaining it’s own sense of identity. There are places for colour but in the right rooms, we tend to keep kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms calm and layered while working with depth of colour in rooms like a pantry, reading nook, scullery or WC.

Where do you find your inspiration for each home / project?

When I’m feeling relaxed; it may be out for a walk, reading a magazine, cooking or playing games with the family. Usually its outside, especially in the Summer.

Favourite room / part of a house to design

Bathrooms! It’s a real favourite of mine.

Your favourite home brands / shops

Cabbages and Roses is my all time favourite, it evokes feelings of my childhood. My mum used to have the most beautiful thick Cabbages and Roses curtains across our 15th Century cottage growing up, and I remember the feeling of them so well against the cottage window leading to the garden. I can still remember the smell of the fresh fabric.

Favourite piece(s) from our collection?

I love the Winifred Ruffle Trim! What a gorgeous little cushion for a window seat.

One for fun - we asked Lauren if she was a cushion from our collection which would it be?

Looking at the design / fabric of our cushions which would you be if you were a cushion? I would be the Laura Stripe but with the trim. It’s classic with a twist!
