an interview with you ;
This weeks interview is with Flossie Allanson @byflossieallan
A quaint flat in the charming conservation area of Putney was the blank canvas Flossie desired to truly put her own stamp on. The flat, a newish build has been Flossie’s ‘perfect first home’ however, of late her mind has been preoccupied with the desire to move on, to somewhere new and out of the hustle and bustle into the quiet countryside.
“its a new(ish) build which isn’t my style per-se, but I wanted to buy something low maintenance, in a nice (and safe!) area of London, that I could put my stamp on without needing to do any major work…it is in a conservation area which means that when it was built, it had to remain in keeping with the period properties around it - so this makes it the best of both worlds! …However I am now starting to think about selling up and moving to the countryside. I have been in London for over 12 years now, and it’s time for a change. I would absolutely love a little cottage in a pretty village, which would we be a total contrast to what I have now, but I am a country girl at heart so I’m very excited about the thought of it! (Although I will only be buying in a village where Deliveroo is available.)”
“My favourite thing about living here is that its actually very quiet, its close to the river, and it has a lovely village feel to it. I am also super close to Richmond, Parsons Green and Wimbledon which are equally beautiful parts of London where you really do feel like you’re in a quaint market town, rather than a bustling city! Its great that I can be in central London in 20 minutes (mostly for work), but these days I actually spend a lot of my time pottering around my local area, and avoiding the hustle and bustle!”
Flicking through home magazines, with several subscriptions on the go, Flossie not only finds her inspiration from the usual social platforms, but from the printed pages in the publications she reads. …“I do also have a couple of home magazine subscriptions which I love to flick through, but you really cannot beat Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration.”
“-Realistically it is the usual places, Pinterest, instagram, and YouTube!”
We asked Flossie what she feels makes a house a home;
“As much as I love interior design, I think a home should feel lived in, and not be too ‘try hard’. Its okay to have beautiful wallpaper, but then to also display all of your favourite photos, and the trinkets you might have brought home from a wonderful holiday. I think this adds personality, rather than making it feel staged. I also think its always good to remember that no one else has to like your home, it is only for you, so if you love a certain interior style, or a certain piece of furniture, go for it!”
We all have that one part of our home that we favour or love the most, whether it be the carefully curated décor choices that speak to our personal tastes and styles, or simply the undeniable fact that the space offers us a sense of comfort and relaxation after a long, tiring day, there is always one special place within our homes we enjoy the most… With that in mind, we asked Flossie to share hers;
"It would have to be my bedroom. I added tongue and groove panelling to the wall behind my bed, which has really given it some character, and I’ve filled it with lovely floral and striped fabrics which make it super cosy and feminine. It is my little haven! ”
It's always inspiring to learn more about the individuals and their homes behind the Instagram accounts we follow, and it was wonderful to learn a little more about Flossie’s life and home in Putney and how she has made her first house a home…
Your favourite home purchase?
It would either be my gallery wall, which I have built up over the past 4 years, through picking up art at antiques stores that really spoke to me. Or slightly more randomly, the antique oar that I have hanging above my TV. As soon as I had the offer accepted on this flat, I knew I had to have a vintage oar in it somewhere, as Putney is famous for its rowing!
Worst home decision / purchase?
I have never liked the modern bathroom in my flat, and whilst in an ideal world I would have ripped it out and put more something more traditional in, it is in good condition so I couldn’t justify that financially. So instead, I decided to give it a makeover and a lick of paint, which included painting the tiles. And, as much as I prefer the look of them now to how they looked before, they are an absolute menace to maintain. The paint regularly needs retouching and it just isn’t that water proof, despite what it says on the tin. The moral of this story is do not trust bathroom tile paint, it lies to you.
Ellie’s favourite piece(s) from our collection?
As someone who makes tablescaping half of their entire personality, I am really drawn to all of the lovely table clothes and napkins. They all mix and match so perfectly together so its difficult to pick a favourite, but I am really drawn to the George ruffle table cloth. The block print is stunning and the ruffle trim adds an extra pretty touch!
We have to agree that tablescaping is a little part of our personality too, and we are so pleased that our pieces inspire and speak to Flossie and so many others whilst browsing our table linens!
One for fun - Looking at the design / fabric of our cushions, which would you be if you were a cushion?

We love Flossie’s cushion personality choice!
